The start of a new school year always brings excitement! We are looking forward to getting to know your children and working with you to make this a great year. I frequently have Kindergarten parents ask me what they can do to help their child have a great year!
Here are a few things I recommend: Get involved! There are many ways to get involved in your child’s education. If you are excited about school, chances are your child will be too.
Ask questions about their day, go over daily work together, read to your child and have your child read to you! Studies show that if your child starts reading 20 minutes per night starting in Kindergarten, by the end of 6th grade they would have read for the equivalent of 60 school days! Wow! Other ways you can get involved are being active in PTO and volunteering at school and in the classroom.
Another way you can help your child this year is to foster your child’s independence. Kindergarten is a time for your child to grow and explore. Letting them figure some things out on their own helps them with problem solving and coping skills.
This also encourages perseverance! Lastly, communication is key! Reach out to your child’s teacher with any issues that may arise. Keep up to date with what is happening in your child’s classroom by frequently checking the Lake Windward and Kindergarten websites, read the newsletters and emails, and get connected on Seesaw! This is an exciting time in your child’s life and we look forward to partnering with you to make this a successful school year!
